I have wanted motion detection outdoor lights for year. Finally got some for my new home and they are great! We put these lovely lights on our garage and our front porch, and they look beautiful and light up both spaces just right. They can be set to turn on when motion is detected and be on for different lengths of time or set them for constant light from dusk to dawn. These are the perfect size for the front porch because anything bigger would have overpowered the space. I'm 5' 2" tall and held the camera at eye level, so you can see how low they had to be hung because of where the former lights were. No cutting brick for us! Anything bigger would not have worked. Great lights! The three-setting motion detector light purchased on Amazon is all I expected. It looks great on my garage. It was easy to install. It was easy to set so it preformed the way I wanted. It was well worth the cost. According to the manufacturer, took years of research to perfect how it functions. I am very happy with it.The biggest problem with this porch lamp is the mounting. Generally lamps have a bracket that mounts to the electrical box, with threaded stock in the center, where the lamp attaches with a nut. This product mounts in a different way.The bracket that comes with the lamp has two parts. One part mounts to the electrical box, and the other part mounts to the lamp with two small black nuts. The two parts are attached to each other by a crimped, rotating swivel, so that any angle box can be accommodated. That's a problem.Since the two parts swivel with respect to each other, once the first part is mounted to the box, and the lamp is mounted to the second part, the lamp can swivel with respect to the box. Unless you can tighten down the lamp to the mounting surface, it is free to turn and swivel. You may not have a firm surface to tighten the lamp down to. In my case, my garage light consists of a box on the surface of a trim piece. There is no way to tighten the lamp down to the box. There is no surface to tighten it down to, thus it can swivel, as shown in the photos. There is no way to tighten the two parts of the bracket so that the swivel is firmly fixed in place. This is an over-sight in the design. If the light is mounted to a flat surface, you can probably manage to tighten the base of the light down to the surface fairly well, although that is tedious. You need to have just the right amount of thread poking through the base of the light to do this. Or you could use a sealant to keep it in place, perhaps. There is another problem with the attachment bracket. The existing surface electrical box had screws that we too large to fit through the slot in the bracket. I had to drill out the bracket so that the threaded part of the screws could fit through the slot. The light does come with mounting screws, but they were the wrong size (too small) for this electrical box. There are other issues. It is supposed to be all aluminum. It's not. It is mostly aluminum, but the top cap for the sensor adjustments is steel, and the bottom plate, holding the glass in, is also steel.I have found no way to turn this light on temporarily, say when you are expecting guests, and want the light to just stay on. In "PC" mode, you can turn the light on and off at night manually (not during the day of course). However, if you set this up for motion detection, there is no way to turn the light on and leave it on for arriving guests. This is something that you would reasonably want to do.The instructions mention a problem where the light stays on all the time. They say that the light may be in "manual override mode" and to turn it off and back on to reset. They do not say anywhere how to put the light in manual override mode. This is exactly what you would want to do in the case where you do have arriving guests. I have no way to make this mode happen, other than to use the light in PC day-night mode, of course. That ruins the motion detection aspect of the product. The product is generally well made, except for the mounting bracket design. The glass looks nice. The part that is aluminum is well made Paint was reasonable. The internal adjustments (switch, 3 potentiometers) are very cheap electrical parts, and are probably not very durable. The light works fine with LED bulbs. The motion detection works fine. Packaging was fine, and the three lamps I ordered all came with proper parts included. Not bad, but not great.Overall, a good porchlight and seems to work fine. Some issues are:1) Even though it is metal and glass, it looks like cheap plastic up close.2) The controls are at the very top of the unit, so if you want to change them after installation it is a real pain and requires a ladder.3) The bulb included is on the low wattage side, and the wattage requirements label faces out. It's like having the care label for your shirt on the outside.I ordered three for my garage. I will probably order two more for another garage. Only issue is with themount. I ended up using my old mounts, as the new ones were very loose, and I didn't know if it would holdthe light straight. The light has been in use for several months, and works perfect.**edit to add**Wrote my review on the faulty light and was contacted within a day or two from the company which offered to send a replacement or a refund (even though I was past the refund window). I chose a replacement and received it within a few more days. This one is working just fine, so the first was just a fluke. The dials are a bit tricky to figure out - a little trial and error to get the right time / dim settings how you like it... so only up to a 4-star for me. But the customer service is 5-star for sure. The three dials to adjust motion sensor, brightness and time have an arrow and “more” and “less”. I’ve tried a bunch of different combinations of turning the dials and I can not get the motion sensor to work. I have to jump up and wave my hand in front of the light to get it to detect me. Missed the return window. Light works in the dusk-to-dawn function, but the main reason I bought was for the motion sensor functionSoon as I took these out of the box they seemed very cheap to me. One thing I find very upsetting with lights is when they put a warning label on it that tears off in pieces. this one has a warning label where the bulb screws in in a spot that you can’t reach with your hand. So, your only option is to take it apart, but it didn’t appear that the face, Where the bulb light shines through, had any screws holding it together. This may be why some of the reviews with photos, show the sticker still adhered.I put these back in the box and returned them to Amazon. I’ve given this three stars because I didn’t evaluate the other features
